Look at this!

I just had to post this NPR article because it's Halloween on Saturday and because this is just one hell of a medical mystery.

You can read the article here.  But take a look at this picture - it will surely get you to the article!

That's right, that's a GHOST in that man's BRAIN!

Natalie Dee

I love nataliedee.com.  Every time I visit the site I laugh uncontrollably.  This one here is pretty good:

Do you have any daily reads I should know about?

Random article to cheer me up on this gloomy day

Since I'm stuck in front of this computer all day long...I tend to read a lot more news than normal.  So when I hit up the entertainment section of the news this afternoon, I was pleasantly surprised to learn this:

I love Peggy Olsen on Mad Men and Fred Armisen is pretty funny most of the time.  I had no idea they were an item, let alone married!  According to New York Daily News, the two were hitched yesterday in New York.  I think it's cute!

In personal wedding-related news...we have a GroomsBort!  Hooray!

Oh. My. God.

The fashion world always has some doozies out there and there are a lot of bridal fashions that I really don't understand.  But this one, I especially just don't understand.  What do you think?

That one in the middle is especially um...how do you say it...awful?!  I mean, that gown ages her into making me think its time to go play shuffleboard before 4:30 p.m. dinner at the Old Town Buffet.  Will brides actually wear these gowns?!  SERIOUSLY??  Who knows, maybe on August 6, I'll surprise you all!

Mittens on Eight Forty Eight!

On Monday, the bf's band, Mittens on Strings, were featured on Chicago Public Radio's Eight Forty Eight.  You can hear the entire interview here.  It really is pretty awesome to hear his voice on the radio.

Etsy love

I love Etsy.  Well, doesn't everyone by now?  I guess you're crazy not to.  Today I made my second Etsy purchase and I know for a FACT that it will most certainly not be the last, but instead, the first of many wedding-related Etsy purchases.  In my mind, our wedding has taken a turn for the rustic theme.  I found this ring bearer pillow from LittleWeeShop, showed it to the groom, mom and MOH and all were very much into it.  What do you think?

Except it won't say J&T (wouldn't it be funny if it did?!).  I think my nephew will enjoy it too.

UPDATE: We got a picture of our "pillow" that's already in the mail! I love, love, love Etsy!

:(

Somebody, please, make it stop.  Just when I thought I was better, its ugly face comes roaring back.

I am a sad Mo.

If you need me, you can find me on the (c)ouch.

Thankfully, Natalie Dee is cheering me up:

Weekend Fun

This weekend was delightful.  Badge & I had a great dinner + movie date in Oak Park on Friday night, made some headway in our wedding plans and spent a lot of time at Sams Wine & Spirits on Saturday afternoon (that is, after serious snuggling and biscuits and gravy).  Our friend Lauren had an art opening at the Eel Space and afterward, well...it ended with lots of wine, friends, a polaroid camera and lots of fun.  Today, I had the most delicious tomato-carmelized butternut squash-brie-spinach strata at Lula's and we went to the farmer's market to pick up some Autumn things.  We went with cider and some pretty flowers.  Badge begrudgingly painted my nails and then made me this delicious drink:

Badger's Bitchin Brr Buster

Farmer's Market quality cider
Honey Whiskey
Nutmeg
Love

Damn, it's good.

It's almost time for Dexter!

What did you do this weekend?

Dream Dress!

This evening is a big deal.  I am going to try on the wedding dress of my dreams.  It costs more than a new car, or a down payment on a new home.  But why should that stop me from wearing it if only for a few minutes?!  It's not like I'm actually going to buy it.  I'm just going to hope that I can charm them or give them a good charity case so they'll GIVE it to me!  Does Oscar really need another $20,000? I don't think so.

UPDATE: There's a new dream dress in town.  Lela Rose is so much more my type than Oscar de la Renta!

The other wedding related plan we have in progress is creating our own save-the-date cards.  At first I was really excited about it, but once we started making them I got discouraged.  Until I found these:

You can DIY it or send in a design for them to process and print for you.  It's not too terribly expensive but it's exactly the kind of paper/postcard combo I had in mind.  What do you think?  Any suggestions from anybody? Anybody?

Record Release!

Tuesday, October 6th is a big day for my awesome friends and fiance's band Mittens On Strings.  Their new record, Let's Go To Baba's, comes out for digital download!  You can download the full album at SOUNGS DOT ORG  for donation amount of your choice.   I even sing on a track (Hearts and Mines).  You can also buy a copy of the album on vinyl which is pretty sweet.

Also, there are tons of one-of-a-kind t-shirts in all sizes, hand-made by Sir Alex Preston.  Those are available at Mittensonstrings.net

If you need a good laugh

I just spent the entire weekend in Louisville with our friend Alex and it reminded me to share this video, since it really is the funniest thing I've seen in a long while.

Hope you're all doing well.  I am recovering from a string of bad luck but things are looking up.  More to come this evening.  I spent some quality time with the world's most adorable pug puppy, so pictures are to come!

UPDATE: PICTURE TIME!

LOVE

LUCY!

Cheer up, love!

I’m not feeling too great today, so I’m trying to cheer myself up with some fun stuff, like this:

And this:

If I could turn my day around right now, I would eat this; drink this; do this for a couple of hours; buy this; go here; and then finish up with 10 hours of this.

Let me know - what great stuff would you do, what awesomeness is crying out “Eat Me” and “Drink Me”, what would you like to do for a couple of hours, and where would you rather be on your Thursday evening?
 .
Here's my (Mo) great stuff to do.
If my last 2 weeks could turn around and be completely behind me at this very moment (it's getting close, I can feel it) I would eat this; drink this; get back to normalcy (sorry everyone but it's true); force you friends to do this with me for a couple of hours and spend my (future?) Thursday going here.

r.i.p. peep

I guess that's the way animal rescue goes... :-(

I find this site pretty awesome:

Here are some of my favourites…

These would make some great prints

I’m really into the bird ones (perhaps it’s the recent addition of Peep into my life…)

peep

Yesterday, I saw a small shivering feathered bundle taking shelter underneath a parked car; it was a sick sparrow.

I couldn’t bear to just walk on by, so I called Bart (this was just outside our house) and asked him to bring some towels and a box, to catch the sparrow.

Poor sick birdy - Patient Peep just hung out in the box, she couldn’t fly.

She wouldn’t eat the birdseed, but she drank some water off a plastic spoon.

I looked online and found a group of volunteers that rescue injured wild birds. There was a volunteer working late at the University of Chicago last night, so we drove Patient Peep over to him real late at night.

He says he’s going to try and save her, and if she can’t be released, she might come live with us! We’ll keep you posted, and we wish Patient Peep a speedy recovery.
