Blue Valentine

I was lucky enough to see Blue Valentine last week - have you seen it?  Michelle Williams really summed it up well in her interview with Marie Claire ::

"...it's a film about what it's like to grow up in that kind of atmosphere of tension and decay...being forever in this pre-trembling of a house that falls....I think of Blue Valentine as a cautionary tale - what happens when you stop paying attention to the reasons you loved each other in the first place, when you let the devil that's in the details eat away at the love."

I honestly couldn't agree more.  It stuck with me for so long after I saw it.  I was sucked into their relationship and felt that I was going through it along with them.  Luckily I was snapped out of it once I left the theater, realizing that my relationship is nothing like that and thanking my lucky stars.  But I am still going over it in my head and I'm liking it more and more as the days go by.

If you've seen it, please discuss it with me! I saw it by myself and have not had the chance to talk about it with anyone else!

Almost saw it with my girlfriend on our twice a month movie date but the timing was off and we saw "Kings Speech" instead (was awesome!). I'm going to suggest this one for our next get together, will let you know what we think. I like both of them so I'm sure the acting will be fabulous.
I go to the movies by myself too:)

I admit I haven't gotten to the theaters yet, and while I'm dying to see it, your description of its affect on you gives me pause! I'm one of those girls that starts wondering if my sweetheart is Mr Big after watching an episode of Sex and the City, so I may not be able to resist some unnecessary anxiety over this one!

I haven't seen it yet, and I'm sort of torn on whether I want to or not. I love Michelle and Ryan and I've heard it is really good which makes me want to go, but on the other hand it seems like such a hard subject they are tackling I'm not sure I'm up for it. I know that is silly since it is just a movie and not reality but I always get really into films and just know that it would probably bring me down for days.

Amber January 25, 2011 at 3:12 PM

oh i loved this film! Michelle really did describe it perfectly. I loved that they left it open ended. Do you think they get back together? I do.

Leslie January 25, 2011 at 4:09 PM

I can't wait to see it; the film looks really good!

Oh, My Darling January 25, 2011 at 6:36 PM

I adore the way Michelle described the film, she hit the nail on the head.

I saw it this past weekend -- I was really excited (of course!) to see it and had these exceptionally high expectations for how it would, like, enlighten me about relationships or something. I also thought for sure that their dynamic would make me cry and think about my ex.

However, I ended up just thinking that it was a beautifully done film about two effed up people progress through an effed up relationship. Still a good movie, but didn't really learn anything new from it or gain any different perspectives.

I sooo wanna see this film! Looks really good but not only that, I love me some Ryan Gosling!

Virginie's Cinema January 25, 2011 at 7:14 PM

And didn't you find both Ryan and Michelle's performances to be so truthful? Did you know it took the director 10 years to make (read finance) this movie? I'm sure glad he made it, I loved it so :)

Michelle January 25, 2011 at 7:46 PM

After reading the post, and the comments, I really want to see this even more!

I loved this movie! I saw it last week and thought about it for days after. Did you notice the Giving Tree tattoo Ryan Gossling had? That's the first thing I mentioned to my boyfriend when we left the theater.
