Firmoo Giveaway!

Boy, what a giveaway we have in store today! It's been awhile since I've hosted one but when Firmoo contacted me, I couldn't resist.  Being a glasses/contacts wearer, I know this stuff is expensive.  Firmoo offers incredibly inexpensive eyeglasses and sunglasses that are super stylish and one lucky winner will receive TWO pairs of their choice from the classic series*. Free glasses? What's not to love! Go ahead and enter, you know you want to!

All of their eyeglasses include 1.50 single vision lenses and sunglasses include zero-powered lenses.  Even if you're not the lucky winner, their glasses are a heck of a deal.

My #1 choice ::

If you're one of the lucky ones in life who have perfect vision (*ahem* husband) you're not out of luck.  Firmoo offers stylish sunglasses as well and you're more than welcome to choose those should you be the winner.  See? Something for everyone. I would choose these ::

or these ::

Look how fun those are!

I secretly wish I was the kind of gal who would look good in these.  These are fun too, and would look amazing as sunglasses.

So here's the coolest part about this company - they offer a first pair free program so everyone has the chance to correct their vision.  Like I said before, glasses are expensive.  With this program, they offer limited quantities of free glasses daily (first come, first served) that include 1.50 single vision lenses, cases, cleaning cloth and other accessories.  You just pay shipping and full refunds are available if you're dissatisfied.  Pretty cool, right?

For a chance to win, please visit Firmoo and leave a comment saying which pair you'd love to win.  For an additional entry, visit Firmoo's Facebook page and give them a like! 2 chances! That's nuts!  A winner will be chosen at random on Sunday night so be sure to tell all your friends over the weekend.  Good luck!

* Prizes do NOT include shipping but the frames and 1.50 single vision lenses are free.  Be sure to check out the shipping and tracking page to be sure they ship to your country and for shipping rates.

Thursday Loves

Have you guys heard of Mur wall decals?  They are only pretty much the best and I want so badly to have a wall or four of them in my home.  Ever since I bought these Mae Wall Decals for Wyatt's nursery, I've been a fan of anything in similar fashion.  Recently, I purchased a sweet stencil for "wallpapering" a room but that involves paint and precision and frankly, ain't nobody got time for that.  Lucky for us, Green Wedding Shoes is hosting a giveaway in which THREE lucky winners will be chosen.  How sweet is that?!

Tumbleweed Handcraft has some amaaaaazing sunglasses - I can't believe I only discovered them this week!  At $85, you can't really beat the deal of handcrafted, one-of-a-kind wood veneer badass sunglasses, now can you.

The fastest way to "hip" up your home - these mini geometric planters would look any room look 10 times cooler.  Etsy shop Shade on Shape has some very pretty things worth checking out.

Sometimes I wish I could plan weddings all the time.  Minus the stress.  But really, the stress is only really bad when it's your own wedding, right?!  Anyway, these straws from Bhldn are so incredibly beautiful, and they're STRAWS.  Why wasn't this store around when I got married??

I leave you with a recent picture of my little meatloaf, as charming as ever.

Hope you are all surviving the week - it's almost Friday! Be sure to check back in, an exciting post is in the works!

Weekend Recap + A Winner!

Welcome to Monday, everyone.  Not only did my check liver light come on this weekend but my warning light for near-heart attack came on.  Holy crap, college basketball! You never cease to impress me.  Some highlights of the weekend include ::

  • Outdoor evening dwelling - tiki torches lit, puppy at the feet, beer in hand.  Check.
  • Garden bed building (him) / repotting every single house plant (me)
  • Visitors!  Maggie & Jen trekked down from Chicago for a weekend of fun (that's still kickin it til' Tuesday!).
  • Even though the Cardinals lost, I got over it quick.  Because my Jayhawks are going to the National Championship game!!! Rock Chalk! And against Kentucky of all teams...
  • Manicures + shopping - such a lovely way to spend a Sunday, especially one that started out stormy and ended so beautifully and warm.

It was a great weekend - but it's still not over (even though I'm at work).  Tonight is going to be crazy and I'm very thankful to have a house full of KU fans and not the other way around (as it tends to go around these parts).

Now on to the winner of the Kristen Solecki giveaway ::

Susan said...

Congratulations, Susan!  We will be in touch :)

Have a great week ahead, everyone!

Thursday is Random

With the weather warming up, my mind has been on all things outdoors.  I really want to be able to fully decorate our screened-in back porch but it is currently being used as a shed (until we have a proper shed, which might be awhile considering how expensive it is to build one).  I have high hopes for this back porch of ours.  High hopes indeed.

This morning, a Facebook friend of mine posted a link to this blog post and I really felt the need to pass it along.  My oldest niece is quickly becoming a teenager, and I really agree with just about everything the author had to say.  Teenage girls need to hear this stuff over and over, don't you agree?

I'm a big fan of maps - especially personalized ones, so when I ran across this personalized map of the United States of America according to...by Hands Workshop, I fell for it.  I'm not quite sure how I would personalize it though.  I've lived in 3 different states in my life and have visited many.  How would you even decide?!

Oh sweet Anthropologie dress, won't you be mine?

I'm also rather obsessed with lighting these days.  I really want to string cafe lights all over the place and buy all new lighting for indoors.  Just more to lust after, right?

Last, don't forget to enter the giveaway! Time is running out before a lucky winner is picked to receive a bag of awesomeness from Kristen Solecki!

Happy Thursday, everyone!

Weekend Recap + A Winner!

{we did it!}

I can't believe it's Monday again.  The weekend flew by - probably because I had an amazing time and did things I love with people I love and ate good food.  I mean, that's all it takes for a weekend to be terrific, right?  Some highlights include ::

  • Christmas tree!!!  We picked ours out at a lot down the street and supported the marching band for a local high school.   Our tree was $10 cheaper than we ever paid in Chicago and we know where the proceeds are actually going.  It's all big and fluffy and even though it doesn't smell like a fresh tree should, it's still perfect.
  • Decorating!  We bought the biggest outdoor bulbs we could find, bought a few wreaths and a couple strands of garland.  I had fun, needless to say.  And the mister did too - it's not every day he gets to climb out on the roof with a staple gun in hand.  We also couldn't resist the urge to light a fire while hanging the stockings and lighting the tree.  Total warm and fuzzies.
  • Lunch with Nanny, my husband's grandmother.  She treated us to an afternoon in Shelbyville, KY, eating at The Science Hill Inn (which totally weirded me out, I felt like I was on the set of The Help and it was rather uncomfortable) and looking at very expensive antiques.
  • Bardstown Aglow - Shop local was the theme of the night.  Even though we didn't buy anything, we enjoyed "shopping" the local bars afterward.
  • Wild Eggs - see where I'm going with this?  Lots of good food was consumed this weekend.  Lots.  My mother-in-law treated us "kids" to brunch at one of Louisville's finest spots - Wild Eggs, all for taking our picture.  Luckily we live down the street from their newest location because - It. Is. Superb.
  • Last but not least, we stocked up our holiday bar (well, somewhat) and sampled our newest selections.  It's bad how much fun it is to go on a shopping spree at the liquor store.  I promise though, we're not as bad as it might sound.

How were your weekends? I'd love to hear!

Finally - to announce our winner of the Marissa B. giveaway!  Congratulations, Erika of Tiptoe Butterfly!  May you rock those beautiful earrings all year long!

Weekend Recap

What a week! I think I am alone on this one but a part of me is slightly relieved it's Monday.  But let's pretend I didn't really just say that.  You see, I had a very wonderful week, full of the 3 most important f's = family, friends and food.  For over a week, we had family and friends staying at our house, keeping us company and full of warmth.  But now Monday is here, we are back to our same ole routine and the kitty can peacefully sleep in his favorite spot(s).  Normalcy has returned and I'm feeling thankful for both warm and fuzzies and also normalcy, sweet normalcy.

Some highlights of the last week include ::

  • Games! We played so many we lost count.  I won pretty much all of them, and that is fun to admit.
  • Bourbon's Bistro! We treated my folks to a gourmet Kentucky meal for my mom's birthday.  All of our food was prepared with bourbon, naturally.  We ate with smiles on our faces and laughed about the Scotty Davenport show being filmed behind us.
  • Birthday karaoke!  Our friend Alex turned the big 3-0 and to celebrate, we all put ourselves out there and jammed some karaoke tunes to a broad audience.  It was pretty fun, needless to say.
  • TURKEY DAY! Holy me oh my was Thanksgiving good.  My mister is seriously the best person ever.  He woke up and started churning out one success after another.  By the time I woke up and had my coffee, mostly everything was done or in the oven.  I was impressed.  We successfully hosted one of the best Thanksgivings of my life and I am so thankful for that.  I'm also so very thankful for so many things - but most importantly for every single person that was there that day.  How great is it that both the mister and I's folks are fun for our friends to be around?!
  • Mammoth Cave + Jim Beam Distillery Tour!  We trekked down south and embraced my stepdads geology love.  We walked through a mammoth cave and stared in awe at all the beauty. It all blows me away!  Jim Beam was on the way home and what better way to end your stay in Kentucky than to tour a distillery!  We took a quick tour and sampled two of their top shelf bourbons.
  • My folks left early Saturday morning so we spent the remainder of our weekend with visiting friends.
  • Vegging on the couch.  It was truly needed.  Such a great way to end such a crazy good week.

How were your holidays? I'd love to hear!  Again, congrats to Erin for winning the Shabby Apple giveaway! And hello to all of my new followers - so excited to meet you!

Last, if you live in Louisville - don't forget to go to Proof on Main tomorrow to meet myself and Alison of {long distance loving}!  Sign up here!

A Winner!

Erin is our lucky winner! Congrats, Erin!  I'll be in touch :)

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I wish you all the best today - the best pie, the best turkey/ham/tofurkey, the best of family times and more.  Today I am so thankful for my wonderful family and the fact that they're getting to come together to celebrate in our home.  It's sure to be a good time - but in the meantime, man, we have a lot to do...

Weekend Recap + A Winner!

The weekends fly by so fast, and I know I can only chalk it up to having fun.  The weather was incredible, we caught up on our sleep and thoroughly enjoyed the early days of fall (yeah, yeah, fall doesn't start until a few days from now but it feels like fall).  Some highlights include ::

  • Family hangin'.  Despite the current difficulties drivers are facing between Kentucky and Indiana, we made it and it was worth it.  Chili, baggo, beer.  Repeat.
  • Loungin'
  • DRIVE-IN!!!  It was every bit as awesomely nostalgic as I had hoped.  We saw Contagion - I've been thinking of it non-stop and thoroughly washing my hands.  We also stayed for Horrible Bosses, which was hilarious (seriously, why would you not stay around for the double feature?!).  We set up camp, wrapped up in blankets and pigged out on candy.  Perfection.
  • Pajama Sunday, oh yes.
  • Family hangin'.  Again, despite current difficulties drivers are facing between Kentucky and Indiana, we made it and it was worth it.  Halibut, birthday cake, wine.  Repeat.  Not really with that repeat...

So what did you guys get up to this weekend?  Something fun I hope.  And did you watch the Emmy's?

Lastly...

We have a winner!  Random.org selected #50, Cathy from Fiscally Chic - congratulations! Thanks for playing, everyone! And a HUGE thanks again to Chelsea of a lovely, little shop. You are the sweetest!

P.S. - sorry for the radio silence from me.  This new job is by every means a new job.  I don't know anything about the work but I'm enjoying the learning process so far. But it's left me completely exhausted the past two nights. The coolest part about it all is that I get to wear scrub-a-dub-dubs! Goodbye, business casual attire! Hopefully I'll be able to make it around to all of your awesome blogs this week but I apologize in advance for it.  Please don't take it personal :)

Weekend Recap + A Winner!

Well, I can honestly say that quite frankly, this weekend ruled.  Aside from the whole driving bit, we had a terrific time (but even the drive wasn't bad, no rain this time!), full of friends and exciting stuff.  Some highlights include ::

  • A night out with friends at Zanzabar to watch the Broken Spurs play (which actually led to too much booze for this Mo Pie = hangover for a very important day)
  • House hunting - we only saw 2 new ones but revisited 2 older ones.  I think we might be done but I don't want to jinx it!  I'll let you know as I know more!
  • After snarfing down the greasiest of fries and then eating a grilled cheese, I felt better so we were able to go to the DERBY!  It was by far one of the most amazing and thrilling 2 minutes I could have hoped for.  We watched the race from the infield and we squeezed our way right up to the fence to get the only view we could of the horses zooming by.  It might have only been a split second that I saw them, but watching them whiz by was as magical as seeing a shooting star or a beautiful animal walking through your yard.  Color me impressed.  My horse, Mucho Macho Man, seemed like a winner.  My mom suggested I pick him because he was born in my hometown and was actually not alive when he was born.  His original name was to be Lazarus because he had risen from the dead, but was changed after he was sold.  His trainer also received a heart transplant in 2008, so the whole story is pretty amazing.  Sadly, he took 3rd and not 1st but I suppose it was just Animal Kingdom's day.  We stayed and bet on the race after the big one and I actually won some money!  I picked Good Lord simply because of the name and good Lord, I won $38!  If only I had been slightly more prepared I could have dressed up and worn a hat.  Sorry, friends.  Next time.
  • Staring at all the Derby fashion is a great way to enjoy the day.  Mint Juleps are fun to buy but not really fun to drink.  But collectors glasses are pretty great!
  • Wild Ginger on Bardstown road is delicious
  • Mother's Day with my mother-in-law!  I haven't been able to spend a Mother's day with my mom or any mom in a very long time, so it was really nice.  We grilled and ate in her beautiful backyard and enjoyed the beautiful 80-degree weather and sunshine.  If only my mom could have been there too!
Here are some more pictures - I wasn't able to take much, mainly because all I could really see were just swarms of people.  When you pay to get into the infield, you don't get to see much at all.  But I was promised that once we live there we'll be making trips to Churchill Downs whenever we want so I can get the full experience.  But going to the Derby was pretty incredible and we had a lot of fun.

Sorry for the phone pics - I am not a photographer :)

In other news....we have a WINNER of the Gemmifer Handmade Giveaway! Thank you all SO VERY MUCH for participating in this but mainly I want to say thank you all so much for reading my blog and coming here to comment on it every day.  It means the world to me to have readers like you and I am thankful for each and every one of you.  I can't wait for many more years of happiness with you all!  So without further adieu...the winner is...

Comment # 44 - Samantha of Vintage is for Lovers!!  We'll be sure to get your necklace to you ASAP so you can sport it all summer long!

Thanks for playing everyone, I hope to do it again soon!

Wednesday Randoms

Here are some catching my eye this Wednesday morning...

Making Waves tutorial at The Beauty Department.  I've seen a lot of different waves tutorials but not one quite like this.  I'm excited to try and perfect this throughout the summer.

This Lucite Storage Credenza from Modology on Etsy.  It is most certainly out of my price range but wouldn't it be amazing to have? Whether in the home or in a store as a display, it would be a great addition.

My friend from high school, Ali, really wowed me today when she posted the recipe for her Margarita Cupcakes!  Don't they just look like the most incredible things you ever did see?  She also posted a plethora of Cinco de Mayo recipes at her incredible blog, Gimme Some Oven.

Uniqlo has collaborated with New York Designers Charlotte Ronson, Vena Cava and Costello Tagliapietra - some pretty cheap price tags well worth the money.

This Debutante Cruiser from Schwinn - pretty sure this is now at the top of my birthday wish list.

This Retro Modern Design chair, which is probably way out of our furniture budget, but at least kitty wouldn't claw it all to pieces.

What's on your mind today?

Don't forget to enter the Gemmifer Handmade giveaway!
