Grilled Piz-za!

Mmmm, I'm ready for more.  It's been 3 weeks, dear pizza.

3 loooong weeks.  I need some more, stat.

Girl Crush

So, Penelope here is my all time favorite girl crush.  I love her in every movie (I think, I'm sure there's a few doozies out there) in every role.  She is drop dead gorgeous and the woman has some seriously great style.  What's not to love?!

We watched Broken Embraces this weekend.  It was intense.  And beautiful.  I love Pedro Almodóvar films, so very much.

She was so damned good in it.  So good.  The story was tragic in so many ways, and this picture right here kind of leaves me a little unsettled.  Have you seen it?
I particularly loved this scene on the beach.  In fact, it's left me dreaming of frolicking on the beach in Spain with an adorable sun hat and beach tote.  Oh Penelope...

The Big Harumph.

Guess who's shop was featured on the front page of Etsy!  My stepsister Georgia's!

How amazing is all of this stuff!  Everything sold at The Big Harumph is made from hand-drawn, hand-carved linoleum block and then inked and printed by hand.  In fact, everything is "so hand made it hurts".  I love it.  Georgia is so talented it's unbelievable.  Not only at this awesome art but she is one hell of a talented musician and an awesome Spanish teacher.  I'm so proud to call her family!

Go check her store out - she's got some seriously clever and hilarious stuff on there.  It took a lot of will power to resist posting it all on here!

Have an enchanting weekend!

My friends, what's your weekend plan?  This weekend is free for us (hooray!) and we're taking advantage.  Tonight: Nothing (woo!). Saturday: Starved Rock State Park (double woo!). Sunday: World Cup with Wonderful people and wonderful beer.

Seriously, I'm so excited to go to Starved Rock.  Canyons and waterfalls! Hiking! NATURE!  The weather is supposed to be hot and sunny and that is exactly what I wanted!  After reading Melina's post about her impromptu road trip, I knew we had to go.  It's been on the agenda for far too long.  Far too long.

Hope everyone has a wonderful, fabulous weekend!

I want

While we were picnicking at Millennium Park last night, I saw one of these cuties and well, I want one REAL BAD.

I would name him Wolfgang.

Aw rats!

Meaning, awwwwww! rats!  So you may be wondering where I'm headed with this.  Well I will tell you.  This is my gift to my stepdad for Father's Day.  A rat, you say? Well I think my mom might fly to Chicago to personally tell me just how she feels about the giant rat I brought into their home...so luckily that's not the case.  Instead, I've sponsored one of these giant rats for a whole year, in the name of my stepdad.  These guys will get to eat bananas for a year to grow strong and smart and capable of doing some incredible things!

These African giant pouched rats are apparently educated with the rodent equivalent of a Ph.D and have been trained to detect landmines in Africa.  Since they're too light to set off the mines, through their sniffin' skillz, they can clear as much land in 20 minutes as a human can in two days!  Another cool fact, these rats have been trained to help out with increasing Tuberculosis problems in the area.  They sniff out samples provided by TB sufferers and in turn, can screen 40 samples in 7 minutes where as a human can do so in a full day.  Pretty impressive!

Since my stepdad went on and on about how he's a scientist and damn proud of it (which so am I, he's one hell of an intelligent man and his stories are always fascinating, no matter how many times I've heard them) I figured what better way to celebrate him being a father than to sponsor science in his name?!

The idea stemmed from this op-ed from the New York Times.  And you can go here to donate or to learn more about the project.  The thing that I love about this gift is that giving meets hilarity, and that in a nutshell sums up my super awesome Stepdad.  So Happy Father's Day, Rod!

Thursday afternoon pick-me-up

Enjoy ;)

Ok, there you have it.  Just couldn't resist.  Sorry Badger!

* All sources from various places that were given to me from yesterday's super incredible email thread between us girls...I'll take them down if need be!

Weird, but kind of cool

After seeing this headline on Refinery 29, I was curious (don't judge): "Flickr Photoshopper likes his women really, really big".  Wouldn't you be curious too?!  So I clicked on the link and saw these pretty neat photos of supermodels turned giant.  Thanks to R29's advice, I'm not going to look any further into the actual flickr set of photos, no way.  Apparently they get kind of pervy (to be expected).  But for the time being, I'll admire these three above and hopefully you can too.
