Thursday's Randoms

I've been smiling ever since I spotted this vintage poster.  I imagine it must have been pretty cool to have this hanging in your room as a young teenage girl back in the day.  Part of it is also kind of gross, too.  Hah!  Whose lips would you be smooching?  My vote is for George.  Via

The color combination that is gray and aqua is by far one of my favorite color combinations ever.  Comine that with paneled walls and pops of color here and there and I think we've achieved perfection.  Now I just need to find a way to incorporate this into our home!

I've been pouring through Old Loves today and couldn't stop laughing when I came across Emma Thompson and Kenneth Branagh on their wedding day in 1989.  Look at that dress! Oh.  My.

This beautiful grecian gown from designer Katie Jean is quite lovely, and I'm rather fond of her styling in the rest of her shop.  If you're a bride-to-be and want to support an up-and-coming designer, be sure to head to her shop and check out her designs.  It could be a perfect match!

Are you as intrigued by this as I? I found this recipe from 101 Cookbooks for lemony olive oil banana bread.  I love a twist on any classic recipe - and I just so happen to have an overstock of frozen brown bananas perfect for bread.  We also just so happen to be hosting the in-laws for dinner tonight so this may end up on the menu.

What's inspiring you today? And what are you up to? It's been a CRAZY week around here.  The husband was out of town, Stevie hit her "ohmygodI'macrazypuppyandIcan'tstopbitingyouandcryingandbarkingandI'mgoingtodriveyouallstarkravingmad" phase and there were 4 reported tornadoes in the Louisville area on Tuesday.  Then it snowed a bit that night.  Crazy, right?  One of the tornadoes just so happened to be a few miles away from our house/the doctor's office.  We were all huddled in a windowless room at work, with patients and people who work upstairs.  The sirens were blaring, a funnel cloud was looming over the city and there was a calm before the storm.  Holy shishkaballs.

Etsy find :: Sophia Clothing

I'm feeling rather smitten with today's Etsy find - Sophia Clothing.  Designer Sophia Zhang has been making clothes for 15 years - and you can definitely tell.  Her outfits are unique and look very well made, don't you think? I could stand to switch a few of the stylings - for instance, get rid of the flip flops! They're in every summery outfit it seems.

What do you think? Do you ever support designers such as Sophia?

Friday's Fancies + Have an Excellent Weekend!

Friday's Fancies

1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8

Are you guys ready for Mercedes Benz fashion week?  Well, are you?  Everything is in full swing and all of fashion's finest is in effect.  I for one am eager for photos, gossip and the like.

This week's Friday's Fancies is focused on just that.  Fashion and all things fashion forward.  Honestly, I have no idea if I pulled "fashion forward" off.  I doubt that Heidi, Michael & Nina would be too impressed, do you?  However, I can say with full honesty here that I would not have the guts to wear this out.  Not because I don't love it, but only because it's not...me.  But put this outfit on someone like Heidi Klum and voila!  Magic.

The Sonia Rykiel top was what started it all.  I couldn't get past the sequins and stripes (and I thought of Liz the whole time) and the colors.  Then I remembered how much I adored this and all the brightly colored pants of the runway and thought it was a match made in heaven.  I would never wear those shoes - mainly because I'm not sure I could walk in them, but they seem to be pretty sweet peeping out from under the pink pants.  Pink pants...yikes, did I just use those two words together in a sentence?  Anyway, I couldn't resist topping it all off with an edgy motorcycle jacket to bring a toughness to contrast all the softness going on here.  I hope I succeeded...but I'll let you all be the judge :)

What are you all up to this weekend?  We don't have much as far as plans but a lot needs to be done.  As usual.  I do know that we're ending the weekend with a special dinner that I am very much looking forward to.

Whatever you get up to this weekend, I hope it's nothing short of grand!  Happy Friday + fashion week, my friends!

Happy Friday, lovelies!  Today's Friday's Fancies is focused on what I would wear if a) money were no object (the main point of FF!) and b) if I were attending a wedding - which I am not.  Surprisingly few weddings took place this year amongst people I know, only one in fact!  I had a lot of fun putting this dream outfit together.  What would you dream up?

I chose a floral Dolce & Gabbana floral print dress for many reasons - and since this is Friday's Fancies and I can dream big, I'm also dreaming that I would look good in this dress too.  I love the colors in the pattern and I love how easy it was to accessorize.  I know it would look amazing paired with sexy red lipstick and the Chanel nail polish really played off the shades of red and pinks in the dress.  I can't resist a turquoise Louboutin, so naturally I had to wear those pumps.  Throw in an Alexis Bittar cocktail ring, some Tiffany diamond studs and a Kate Spade clutch and voila :: a beautiful wedding guest look.  Be stil my heart!

So what's everyone getting up to this weekend?  Tonight I'm going to see this scary movie with my SIL and MIL and I can't wait.  I love scary movies but have yet to watch one since we moved into this big, old house.  Have I mentioned that our house is 98 years old?  We're also spending some time with the FIL on Sunday to get to work on that coffee table we're making and I'm sure there will be other activities involved.  Whatever you get up to this weekend, I hope it's a good one!  And for those of you on the east coast - please stay safe!  What a week it's been for you - earthquakes and hurricanes.

'Til Monday!

Lusting for :: Marc by Marc Jacobs

I'm so into both the dress and the swimsuit from Marc by Marc Jacobs!  You may have seen this dress floating around the blogosphere but I just can't stop staring at it and needed to repost.  After flipping through the new issue of Lucky and seeing it again, I just fell so hard for its gorgeous color, stripes and summer feel.  And the swimsuit?  So adorable.  I need these in my life, do you need them too?

Love for Tory Burch

Every month when I receive a new issue of Marie Claire or Lucky or ReadyMade, I get way too excited about all the great finds and either give in to my shopping urge or go try and figure out a way to create the new look out of something I already have.  Luckily, this month I am pining for Tory Burch items and I simply can not and will not afford them.  So that makes it much easier, right?

The top that I'm madly in love with from the November Marie Claire doesn't seem to be on her website, so instead I fell in love with other pieces.  Like this ::

Just look at how comfy and cozy that looks.  The great thing about loving this sweater is that a) it would totally wash me out and b) I would look frumpy in it.  So while I love it on the model, I know it's not for me and therefore my wallet remains a happy camper!

This one, however, is a different story.  Because let's face it, everyone would look great in this spin on the classic polo ::

Last, not only would this scarf look great on everyone but it was made for such a great reason.  It's part of the Tory Burch Foundation collection and all proceeds from the sale of this scarf and others go directly to the foundation and their partner, Accion USA.  The foundation provides economic opportunities to women and their families.
