Music to your ears

Vacation

Flaming Pig

Check out these videos.  My friends/fiance are pretty talented and creative, right?  Mittens played another show last night, this time at the Empty Bottle.  I was told their performance was going to be 'ok', but they did really well, had new material and everyone was into it.  I'm proud of my friends, as you can probably tell.

Mittens on Strings

My fiance's band, Mittens On Strings will be performing perhaps one of their last shows on Monday.  You guys should come! All of you! Whether you live in Chicago or not!  Ok, just kidding about that last part!

Their shows are always fun, and usually include a super sweet raffle.  Alex usually raffles off some crazy shit, and it always equals to a pretty awesome time.  These boys have become such a seriously good band over the last couple of years and it's sad that they're parting ways (damn you NYC, taking yet ANOTHER friend).  This is by no means the last you'll hear of these guys as musicians - I'm sure something incredible will stem from this.

Here's the 411 on the show:

See you there?

I'm back!

Hi everyone, I'm finally back to the windy city and I have very mixed emotions about it.  When I left, it was beautiful.  Now that I'm back, it's not as beautiful.  What gives?  What did I ever do to you, Chicago?

I had a great time down in Austin.  It's a great city with great people and lots of excitement.  A lot of fun was had, a lot of music was heard and a lot of pizza was consumed.

A ton of SXSW-related posts will come in due time, don't you worry.  But I must say, I had such a wonderful time and I love my friends so much.  My favorite moment of the entire trip was on Friday night, hanging out on our friends porch, drinking beer.  We were getting ready to go watch a show at this house party and we had spent the whole day at the French Legation just drinking and listening to good bands play in the sun.  Our friend Alex makes these shirts for Mittens on Strings and they are fantastic.  He sometimes does a raffle at their shows and gives away these "one of a kind, mildly amazing t-shirts" to lucky winners.  Our friend Nathan was the raffle winner and so Alex decided to pull out every single shirt from the inventory and explain them all so Nathan could choose the best one.  Let me just say, it was the most hilarious 20 minutes.

See, this is an animal having a really great dream.  But thatt animal is dreaming about not another animal, but that really great smell that animals love.  This, I never knew before!

No explanation necessary.

Three lonely birds.  Always have to work and never play.  That's why they're going on vacation, taking some time off and relaxing.   Going inside to stay.

It was a great time and I'm sad to be back to reality!  More to come!

On the road again

My stepbrother sent me this photo last night as my Badger and his Mittens On Strings played a show at their house.  My parents came out and everything!  While I was sitting at home feeling sorry for myself, I do feel really warm and fuzzy from the fact that my friends and my family are all about hanging out with each other whether I'm there or not.

2 days 'til warm and sunny Texas skies!

Hello!

Hi all! (anyone?)  It's been awhile since I've posted anything.  Life has been strange and all over the place lately.  I've been sick (swine flu anyone?!) a few times, gone to see my family in Wichita and picking up the wedding planning.  In fact, I'm going to say YES to the dress on Monday!

I just wanted to say hi and to pass along this wonderful and delicious recipe.

We substituted peas for green peppers which ended up being mighty delicious.  We've been wondering what to do with that barley for the longest time, so I am pleased!

Tonight is another Mittens on Strings show at Schuba's. They play at 10 if you're interested...

Now for your entertainment:

My niece, Ally, was loving me with all her might!

So adorable!

Mittens on Eight Forty Eight!

On Monday, the bf's band, Mittens on Strings, were featured on Chicago Public Radio's Eight Forty Eight.  You can hear the entire interview here.  It really is pretty awesome to hear his voice on the radio.

Record Release!

Tuesday, October 6th is a big day for my awesome friends and fiance's band Mittens On Strings.  Their new record, Let's Go To Baba's, comes out for digital download!  You can download the full album at SOUNGS DOT ORG  for donation amount of your choice.   I even sing on a track (Hearts and Mines).  You can also buy a copy of the album on vinyl which is pretty sweet.

Also, there are tons of one-of-a-kind t-shirts in all sizes, hand-made by Sir Alex Preston.  Those are available at Mittensonstrings.net

If you need a good laugh

I just spent the entire weekend in Louisville with our friend Alex and it reminded me to share this video, since it really is the funniest thing I've seen in a long while.

Hope you're all doing well.  I am recovering from a string of bad luck but things are looking up.  More to come this evening.  I spent some quality time with the world's most adorable pug puppy, so pictures are to come!

UPDATE: PICTURE TIME!

I

LOVE

LUCY!
