Weekend Recap

Oh, what a weekend!  After spending most of last week alone while the hubs was away on business, I was rewarded with an extra fun weekend with visitors from Chicago.  We celebrated Derby just right, got a heaping dose of cute from watching Stevie and Konrad (a goldendoodle!) play non-stop and soaked up every last bit of Louisville's perfect weather.  Some highlights include ::

  • Watching Stevie and Konrad meet and greet.  They really did well with each other, especially considering Steves can be a real brat sometimes.  Konrad, you are such a patient pup!
  • Pizza + Booze + Oaks + Louis C.K.  + friends = fantastic Friday night
  • Our friends happened to have their offer accepted for a house outside of Chicago on Saturday, so naturally we celebrated!
  • Outdoor fun - we bought stuff to grill, had drinks, played Bocce, watched the dogs play, laughed a lot and ended with sitting around a fire.
  • The Derby! We watched comfortably in our living room and cheered on our chosen horses.  Based off name alone, I chose Bodemeister.  I thought I had done so well for 3/4 of those 2 minutes, but I'll Have Another finished what Bodemeister started.  None of us chose I'll Have Another to win so we all basked in the glory of the name and did just that :)  Is it just me, or is that possibly the greatest winning name of all time?!
  • Before we said our goodbyes on Sunday, we went out to have brunch at Wild Eggs.  That place is always delicious.
  • We bid farewell to our friends, mowed the grass and played another round of bocce before retiring for the day

How were your weekends?  Spectacular, I hope.  Here's to a great week ahead!

Be sure to check out The Snackpot - my friend Jacob has got a pretty great thing going, and it launches today! Here's a funny video from Pitchfork 2011 that The Snackpot put together.

Friday's Fancies + Have an Exhilarating Weekend!

Friday's Fancies

1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5 // 6 // 7

Happy Derby weekend, everyone!  Now that I am a Louisville resident, I feel it's only right and natural to celebrate the town's beloved holiday.  I won't be attending the Derby this year and will instead be watching the race from the best seat in the house (my couch) with some good friends.  If I were to go this year, and had tons of dough to spend on tickets that weren't the infield, clothes and betting, I would likely be wearing something like this.  The Derby is a classy event and if you're going to dress up, you'd better be wearing a hat (people take it so seriously!).  I'm not a hat lady, so it's likely I'd just bring one along to have, to avoid the stares of disapproval!

Nothing screams Derby like D&G, right?  Paired with a turquoise MiuMiu shoulder bag, Stanwells coral wedges, a fancy Swarovski cocktail ring, Calypso St. Barth danglies and a bright pop of Nars nail polish in Amchoor by Thakoon, you've got a solid look that stands out, yet blends you right in with the other rich folks and celebrities floating around Churchill Downs.

What do you have planned this weekend?  I keep forgetting tomorrow is Cinco de Mayo.  We have plans to grill with our special Chicago visitors tomorrow, and I'm thinking that drinking mojitos will celebrate both holidays fairly.  Let's face it, mint juleps need carbonated water.  Am I right? Yeah.  I totally am.

My mister has been out of town all week on business and he gets home in an hour and a half.  I can't hardly wait!  So here's to a great weekend, full of friends, food and fun!

Be sure to check out all the other Friday's Fancies at {long distance loving}!

Thursday Loves

Doesn't this just look "mmm, mmm good"?  I want to devour it and enjoy every last morsel.  Self control, Mo.  Self control.  Via

Isn't this the perfect combination of all things summer?  Just throw some summer treats in that box and you're good to go for a perfect California kind of day.  Via

Speaking of the perfect combination - just add this summer blanket by Mexchic to the mix for an afternoon picnic or a day on the beach.

There's a chance that we may be going to the Kentucky Oaks tomorrow evening with special Chicago visitors!  Last year we attended the Derby in the infield (I think I'm set for life now) so this will likely be an entirely different experience if we do go.  Everyone will be in pink, the crowds will be a little less and we would get to see all the best Fillies race.  And no, I will not be going all out with my attire.  I have nothing even somewhat close to a Derby hat and my wardrobe really doesn't consist of anything pink!  I know there is many reasons to be against horse racing, but there is certainly something very magical about everything surrounding the Derby.  Will you be watching the races this year?

Last, I know it's only the beginning of May.  But today's high is 90.  90 degrees!  It's going to be a long hot summer if this is the case in early May! Too bad I still haven't ordered that hammock, because I'm really going to need a little resting place in the shade like this ASAP!

Have a lovely Thursday, my friends!

Derby Fashion

Just a little bit of Derby fashion for you on this sunny and warm Monday morning.  I can't get enough of the hats and dresses!  There were so many amazing outfits - not only on the women but on the men, too. It's pretty awesome to see so many young men dressed in seersucker suits and fedoras all in one place.  I will definitely be sporting a hat next time!

Have a delightful weekend!

Hooray for Friday!  We're taking off early for Louisville again.  These road trips are always fun but man, they're getting expensive.  We're actually going to be one of the crazy ones at the Derby this weekend and I'm pretty excited about it - even if nobody else is!  I've never been so this will be great, I hope.  I just heard some sad news - Uncle Mo has been scratched from the race.  My heart is broken now, who will I bet on!?  Ack!

What are all of you up to this weekend? Whatever it is, I hope it's great!  Wish us luck as we try to once again find our house....

Last - don't forget to enter the Gemmifer Handmade giveaway! You have until Sunday night (and I might even take some scragglers come Monday morning, just because I love you all).

Friday's Fancies - The Kentucky Derby

Today's Friday's Fancies link up is an exciting one, because I am pretending this is my outfit for tomorrow's big event - The Kentucky Derby!  We are actually going to the Derby (hooray!) but we won't be one of the lucky ones to mingle amongst the celebrities and we probably won't really be able to watch the race.  We're going to be down in the infield, where things get messy and people go crazy.  So my dress won't be nearly as nice and I'll probably trade those patent leather Michael Kors pumps in for my Hunter boots since it's likely to be a muddy mess.  I don't even have a hat to wear - touché!  But at least that will allow me to see above all the others that tower over me, right?!  Are any of you planning to watch the Derby?  Making Derby pies?  Betting on horses?  There is a horse in the race called Uncle Mo, so you can bet your bottom dollar I'm betting on him to win it big.

This yellow Steven Alan dress seems so perfect for the day's events - well perfect for any event in spring.  Even at the risk of looking like ketchup and mustard, I love the combination of the yellow dress with the patent leather red pumps.  I know I'm dreaming when I pair high heels with an outfit for walking around all day, my dogs would be barking in an instant!  But that's the fun of this whole Friday's Fancies business, right?!
