Weekend Recap

Hello, everyone! How were your weekends?  Mine was lovely.  Spring is springing here in Kentucky and it's beautiful.  Yesterday's weather did wonders for my soul.  Some highlights of the weekend include ::

• Sol Aztecas - Holy yum, this place is good.  So was the company!  
• KU losing was a major disappointment, but Louisville winning the Big East championship PLUS UK losing the SEC championship pretty much made up for it.  Now, let the Madness begin!
• Flea Off Market - we briefly strolled through the flea market with Stevie in hand (which might have been a big mistake).  People loved on her a lot, which was totally cute, but man, she was annoying.  
• We spent the remainder of the day going in and outside, sipping brews and watching basketball.  Also, we may or may not have fallen asleep on the couch before SNL started.  
• Brunch, garden shopping and outdoor time - we planted a blackberry bush, bought starter seeds and wood to make a table (wood for the raised bed is next trip).  I'm so so so very excited for it all!
• Porch time - the critters are coming out and chattering up a storm.  It's so calming to sit on the porch and enjoy it all.

I've totally got spring fever.  It's bad!  With temps in the 70s this week, it's hard to not believe that winter is behind us, spring is here and happiness will seep out of every ounce of my being.  Here's to a great week, everyone! xoxo.

Weekend Recap

Good morning, lovelies!  How were your weekends? Wonderful, I hope.  Ours was pretty good - aside from the fact that I spent most of it just trudging through, feeling a little off.  I still haven't become officially sick, but I can't tell if the fatigue and scratchy throat is going away or if it's just going to be kept at bay for awhile.  Does this happen to any of you?  

Anyway...'twas a good weekend.  Some highlights include ::

• MEETING DOGGIES!!  We're seriously starting the dog adoption process and on Friday evening we ventured down the street to meet a few pooches and to introduce ourselves to the foundation.  They're on the look out for the perfect match and I couldn't be more thrilled!
• Cumberland Brews - we decided to go out to eat afterwards and enjoy some casual hang time with good people.  
• Brunch - the husband's grandma came over and we served her biscuits + gravy.  Seriously, he makes the best biscuits and gravy.  He also watches a lot of Good Eats...
• Spending the afternoon going to LaGrange for furniture shopping and also the mall for other shopping.  I can't remember the last time I can honestly say I went to the mall.  It was enjoyable and we totally got some double doozies from the cookie store.
• Saturday night veg fest.  Since I'm not feeling 100%, I opted to stay in on Saturday while the hubs went to a bourbon party.  It was nice, I rested on the couch, knit, watched some of this and played some of that.
• Homemade french toast.
• U of L basketball!  Raegan treated me with a ticket to the Louisville men's basketball game vs. Lamar.  I loooove going to NCAA basketball games and she knew it.  It seriously made my month!  Even though the seats were so high up it felt like we could plummet, it was totally worth it.
• Bears victory! I may have missed the majority of the game but that's ok.  
• Chinese food + veggin' with friends.

All in all, a terrific weekend.  Add to it a 70+ degree November day and you've got some serious perfection going on.  I'd love to hear about your weekends!  Here's to a great week ahead of us, my friends.

Weekend Recap

We're back to Monday again, aren't we.  Well that's okay I guess because it only puts us that much closer to a lot of things coming up that I'm excited about.  The weekend was good despite the weather.  We did a lot of relaxing and staying indoors.  Some highlights include ::

• Delicious food all weekend long
• Lots of sleep
• Lots of staying in our pajamas until the afternoon
• Bridesmaids the movie!  It was really funny and definitely worth using our soon-to-expire Fandango tickets.  I love going to a Saturday matinee (apparently so does the rest of the city, but that could be due to the weather) and gorging on nachos and candy.  Don't judge.
• Euchre
• House business - not really a highlight but the productiveness felt pretty good
• Last but certainly not least - Da Bulls!  Derrick Rose, Taj Gibson, Luol Deng, Carlos Boozer - they all gave quite the performance over the Heat last night.  It was simply incredible to see them defeat the Heat 103-82.  Take that, LeBron.

Weekend Recap

What a weekend it's been.  It started off with an overflow of happy emotions and then ended with a devastation that has me pretty down, to say the least.  Not to be too overdramatic, but March Madness really has a way of kicking you where the sun doesn't shine, you know?  I mean, one minute you're over the moon with the excitement of a victory.  Cut to less than 48 hours later, your head's hung low and your heart is broken because of a surprising loss to an 11-seed team.  Ugh!

Other than basketball, the weekend was good.  Some highlights include ::

• Bar night with BK & Jen!  Catching up with friends is always nice, especially when there is a blowout on TV of the best kind going on in the background (KU crushing Richmond)
• Euchre night with the Hinshaws!  Peanut is growing like crazy and he's got this cute little smile that's starting to come out to play.  Or maybe that was just me convincing myself that his little mouth movements were really smiles in disguise.  Either way, that boy sure is cute.
• We finally got around to watching Howl - it was very good.  Accompanied by a glass of wine, it was the perfect way to end a Saturday night.  I highly recommend seeing it.
• Mildred Pierce.  After hearing an interview on NPR, I couldn't wait to watch this new HBO miniseries.  Kate Winslet is lovely in it, as is Melissa Leo.  I'm already hooked!  Did you watch it? It's definitely a lovely way to spend a chilly Sunday night, especially after your heart has been broken.  (As a side note, my maiden name is Pierce and I used to live on Mildred street when I moved to Chicago.  Just thought I'd share)

How were your weekends?  Good, I hope.  Also, the bright side of KU's loss is that you don't have to read my biased basketball opinions any longer!  But I'm curious to know if any of the Final Four teams have your hearts?  My bracket(s) is shot, but I did pick UConn to go to the final against KU, losing of course.  So I guess I can get behind Kemba Walker to take them there...

Brace yourself, this could get sappy

So, these last few winter months have turned me into a NCAA basketball fanatic, like, dude style.  Say what?  Yeah, it's true...but the boy quite enjoys it.

It's strange to say that it's true, I'm a huge fan of the KU Jayhawks EVEN though I grew up hating them and loving the other Kansas team.  But then I went to school at KSU for a year, absolutely hated it and then moved to Lawrence where I finally felt at home.  And now, here I am in Chicago, finally following the Jayhawks' every game with my man fully supporting them as well. 

They're currently ranked # 2, which is a shame as they have been in the #1 position throughout most of the season.  But that's not stopping them from winning the championship like they did in '08 (man, that game was so intense and nail-biting, but they won and it was FUN to be at the KU bar in Bucktown).  They're totally going all the way, and I can't wait for March (mustache) Madness to seriously kick in. 

So what am I getting at with all this blabber?  Well last night's game was an important one.  Not only because they defeated the KSU Wildcats (in a blowout), but it was senior night.  The team only has one senior...Sherron Collins.  They've got a bunch of seriously super talented youngsters who know how to play together, but the reason they work so well as a team is definitely due in part to Sherron's leadership (not to mention their coach Bill Self, a real stand-up guy).  He is their go-to guy for every situation and when he's not having a good night the rest of the team feels it. 

Last night was an emotional night in Allen Fieldhouse.  Seriously, it's not every day you see a bunch of 6' something grown men shedding tears and sharing embraces. 

They won the Big 12 championship and secured their solo spot with last night's victory. 

Collins' family took bets last night over how long it would take him to break down and cry during his senior day speech, but he didn't even make it to the speech without some tears pouring down his cheeks! 

# 4 Collins will go down as the winningest player in KU history.  Which is awesome as he is in competition wth some NBA greats such as Paul Pierce, Kirk Heinrich and the legendary Wilt Chamberlain.

I'm always impressed when outstanding players choose to actually stay for four years in the NCAA.  All of KU's team have amazing academic scores and that makes me proud.  Last night was a night full of love and that is why I'm sharing this with you.  I'm full of sap right now, apparently.
