Meryl + Kramer vs Kramer

The other night, we watched Kramer vs Kramer.  Now, all I can think about is not only how beautiful Meryl is but the roles she chose to play in her early days of acting.  Her role as Joanna Kramer in this film is not a likeable character, but she did such an excellent job of making me not like her, of making the audience feel her pain but also pain for her husband and son.  Even though her time on screen was short, she did everything an actress could do  to suck you into their lives, to her unhappiness.   It was magical.  The emotions I was left with after the film are hard to describe.  But I do know that I was impressed and can honestly say I understand why it won so many Oscars.  I get chills when I think about the opening of the film - of how intense and sad it was between her and her son (who, by the way, knew how to tug at our heartstrings).

Have you seen this film?  What is your favorite role that Meryl has played?  Do you have any recommendations for other films like this to watch?

I think Megan scared the shit out of Meryl Streep once. Funny story.

I am a big fan of beautiful Meryl, but I haven't seen this! I need to, and it's is definitely on my list. :)

My favorites? The River Wild, Devil Wears Prada, Death Becomes Her, and Marvin's Room. :) Oh and of course, Out of Africa.

I've seen this film, and you articulated what she did so well. She was not likeable but she made hr character understandable.

Meryl is so beautiful and SO talented. My favorite role for her so far was Julia Child in Julie & Julia. She MADE that movie.

omg i just LOVE meryl...i pretty much love everything she's ever done but if i had to choose just one, i'd say her role as julia child in julie & julia...she was just AMAZING. i also am a sucker for "death becomes her" i have no idea why...but i love it :)

oh and thank you for the great comment on my teacher blog...we totally see eye to eye. to say i'm disgusted with our government would be a huge understatement!!

ok...it's been a really long time since i've seen kramer vs kramer. so when i saw that picture you have, i wondered if the little boy was the same precious little boy, Huckleberry Fox, from Terms of Endearment. and so i went on a IMDB.com search. it's not the same actor. however, the one who did play the 7 year old son still acts today and has recently been on Castle & Brothers and Sisters.
