I am hooked!

Friends, I am obsessed.  With making smoothies.  Especially smoothies of the Orange Julius kind.

For weeks now, I've been making smoothies and stocking up on fruit more than usual.  I've been going through it like it's going out of style and my body is liking it as well.  I've been making smoothies from here and here and thus have been plowing through plain yogurt and running out of agave nectar pretty fast.  Thank goodness the Dill Pickle Coop is right down the street!  Anyway...

The other day, I was looking up ideas for making a delicious smoothie using the absurd amount of clementines we had in our fridge (there was a sale at Stanley's that you just can't pass up).  Lo and behold, my high school friend, Ali, had the perfect recipe ::

Fresh Orange Smoothie a.k.a. Orange Julius but better...

{photo courtesy of Gimme Some Oven}

First off, Ali's blog has not only the cutest name but is chock full of amazing recipes.  It's one of my go-to sites for cooking/baking inspiration, recipes, drooling, etc.  But seriously, this smoothie has completely stolen my heart.

Ingredients ::

  • 4 fresh oranges, peeled (I used clementines - whatever works)
  • 2 cups ice (if you pop the oranges in the freezer for about 30 minutes beforehand, you can use less ice which adds more flavor - see Ali's tip)
  • 1/3 cup milk (I use almond milk but whatever kind will work just fine)
  • 2 tbsp. honey (or agave nectar or sugar)
  • 1 tsp. vanilla (secret ingredient!!)
  • zest of one orange
Blend and enjoy!  Over and over and over again!

Keep up the good work, Ali!

PS - orange you glad I shared this?!  Sorry, had to do it.

We just had smoothies this morning! We drink them several times a week during the summer (replaces our oatmeal) but not nearly as fancy as yours. I don't like milk so ours a little more full of sugar :)
I use frozen mango chunks, flax seed (sometimes flax oil too) bananas and oj. We call that one "mango madness" and when we use berries we call it "berry blast" - yum. Clementines sound great!

Well, even though I'm somewhat disappointed this is not an alcoholic beverage after taking my class to the RODEO today... (although I'm sure I could make it one if I tried!) This looks amazing! I think I just might make one tonight!

Alyssa Goodnight March 6, 2011 at 9:58 PM

I'll have to try this version. My Orange Julius recipe is just a little bit different, and I LOVE it. Have tried pineapple too, and was planning to try strawberry next.

I still wish I had access to an Orange Julius though...
