So I know I'm a little late with this post. This documentary came out in April and the hype has come and gone. But with it being nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary, I decided it was due time to watch it. If you haven't seen it, you should. Whether you're a fan of art or not, it's a pretty good documentary and there is a lot of "wow" moments throughout.
What really fascinated me about this film is all of the speculation over its story. Is it a hoax? The second half is a complete 180 from the first, with the instant evolution of MBW - Mr. Brainwash. It's easy to believe that it could be a "prankumentary" but I honestly think that just makes it all that much cooler.
Have you seen it? Do you think it's a hoax?
PS - check out Anna-Maria's awesome Banksy post here.

Well I know the guy has done some art work for some major celebs :) So maybe its a hoax within a hoax.
A hoax within a hoax - I like it.
I'm a little embarrassed to admit I haven't heard about this film-absolutely going on my Netflix queue now, though!
Yes- My husband and I went to see it at the Roxy in SF- it was fantastic-
I haven't heard of this before. I am so out of the loop- or I was. Thanks for letting me know!
I was (well, and still am) planning a post on this movie, as we just watched it recently also. I think it's Banksy as a mastermind putting us all through a hoax... a statement on the way art becomes regarded as art... think about it ;)
id never even heard of it. illhave to check it out

CGC - I really like your theory. A lot.
I've never even heard of it. Was kind of out of the movie loop for most of last year - a first for me.
Ooh, I've had this on my Netflix queue for a bit -- you've inspired me to put it at the top.
i watched this recently too! it was pretty unbelievable how the guy made so much money from copying all of the real artists! i don't think it's a hoax!

My boyfriend and a friend were JUST talking about this documentary last night. I feel so out of it because I had no idea what they were talking about. I officially have to see it now because what I've seen of the artwork is nothing short of amazing.
