Color Inspiration :: Red + Gray-Blue

Last week, we painted our smallest bathroom a color called "cold steel".  In the store, it was gray as gray gets.  It was perfect under the incandescent/fluorescent/daylight lights they have in-store and we were sold on it.  When we started painting, I couldn't get over how blue it was turning out.  It's so odd because even in our living room, the color is still very gray and not blue at all.  But in the bathroom...let's just say, lesson learned.  Always bring the paint sample home first before you give in to impulse.  Don't get me wrong, I really do adore the color and the bathroom needed something to both lighten and spruce it up a bit.  I'm just left a little perplexed for color schemes and disappointed I don't get to have my gray and yellow bathroom.  Alas...

But thanks to Pinterest, inspiration is endless.  Case in point ::

1, 2, 3, 4

In the room, we have a yellow shower curtain (hence my gray + yellow aspirations) and there is beautiful white trim.  So to really give it a punch of color, I think accessorizing with red is a perfect fit.

Now I just need to purchase something vibrant to hang on the walls in there.  Because we own practically zero red things to accessorize with!

And for some extra oomph, not necessarily in the bathroom but just around the house ::

And just because, here is an outfit in this palette that has my heart ::

Color Inspiration :: Gray-blue + red

I'm feeling inspired...are you?  Are you a fan of this palette?

Paint chips can be so fickle! I love this color combo though, I think it worked out for the best!

Exact same thing happened to me in our last house and it was even a bathroom. I was certain it was a slate grey and I swear when we finished it was periwinkle. People would say they liked the blue bathroom. I hated it but left it for about a year.

Love it!! That is a really pretty combination. The red and white striped tea pot may be the cutest thing I have ever seen!

That cut on the dress is so gorge. I actually like the red accent added to your existing palette. I think that could be fun and punchy! I had the same color issue happen with my office...Tiffany blue...not so much.

Damn those paint chips-but I bet it looks just divine! Red is my favorite shade, so I'm delighted you're including it!

I haven't thought about this color palatte before but seeing that bedroom makes me think it pretty fantastic. And the dress clutch heels ensemble is killer!

I learned that lesson the hard way too. I had seen this pic in Domino and fell in love with this dark gray color. I purchased the exact color that was listed in the magazine, painted my walls, and it turned into more of a blue gray color...not even close to the picture..so disappointing.

Oh geez paint... I learnt my lesson when I was 16 and my mom gave me permission to repaint one (just one) wall in my room. Yikes, it was the most horrible shade!

you know what, I've had two friends tell me that gray is the hardest color to pick out. one of them said they painted their living room 3 times and it's still not right. but I'm sure it's worth it in the end! try to find a gray that has a red undertone. that will help get the blue out and the tint will go with your red accent colors that you want to bring in!

we are doing grey for the wedding and I'm being very specific that I want a red-grey, not blue-greys! ha! crazy I know...

LOVE that outfit! I love adding a little touch of red. In our living room it's our pillows, in the kitchen it's my stand mixer and a little teapot :)

I absolutely love the muted splash of red in the outfit picture. It may be hard to find accessories in that particular color but it sure would look lovely!
